Trustee Quinlan Outs Request for Business Director's Resignation

"In the name of transparency," Trustee Carol Quinlan (Dist. 5) began her last order of new business at Tuesday's village board meeting, asking the Village Manager Larry Deetjen, "why, on July 2, that you have given Chad Weiler, a retirement and release form, giving him 21 days to sign it, when he is only 53 years old."

Weiler is the village's director of business operations.

Mayor Sandra Bury and village attorney Paul O'Grady both urged Quinlan to wait until executive session to discuss the topic for the sake of Weiler, who was not present during the village meeting. Quinlan said it was an appropriate topic to discuss publicly because she had Weiler's permission.

Quinlan said that she had heard that village manager Larry Deetjen had told Weiler that he was "in a pickle because you had a Heilman-Moran sign. You should've cut out the 'Moran' and put a Jane Quinlan sign."

The mayor called the board to order several times during the fifth district trustee's comments when Clerk Jane Quinlan and Trustee Quinlan disagreed. After discussing the board's "lack of transparency," Quinlan concluded her remarks.
