Queen of Peace Students Attend Dominican Preaching Conference

Burbank, IL – July 23, 2014 – Two students from Queen of Peace attended the Dominican Preaching Conference in Adrian, Michigan. Queen of Peace Seniors, Abby Bautista and Sara Durkin were accompanied by Campus Minister, Jim Negrete. The Dominican High Schools Preaching Conference empowers high school students to discover and deepen the preacher within themselves through prayer, study, community and interaction with members of the Dominican Family.

During the week-long conference, students from Dominican High Schools nationwide participated in preaching workshops and services. The students devised an action plan to help their schools carry out the Dominican tradition following the four pillars of prayer, study, community and preaching.

They began by learning and connecting with the Dominican Tradition and the call to preach in all ways to the world. In Preaching the Signs of the Times they found ways to identify issues within their communities and develop strategies for solutions. In Preaching in Action they brought the talents and gifts of the attendees to service sites in Adrian, Michigan to learn how their actions impact those who are often marginalized in society. Preaching through the Creative Arts taught them to connect with God as an Artist and find ways to connect in a deeper relationship through Liturgical Preaching, Dance and the Arts. They finally brought all these aspects together and developed a plan to bring their Preaching back to the Queen of Peace Community.
