One frame, one game at a time.
The motto served to keep Oak Lawn's boys bowling team focused on the job at hand right to the end of a storybook season.
Sophomore Ryan Kirby led the Spartans to a fifth-place finish in the IHSA state tournament at St. Clair Bowl in O'Fallon. Kirby bowled games of 244 and 226 en route to a six-game series of 2,615.
His work helped Oak Lawn finish with a pinfall total of 12,484—or about 400 pins behind state champ Lockport. The Porters took the team title with a pinfall total of 12,846. O'Fallon, bowling on its home turf, placed second with a total of 12,772, followed by Salem 12,538 and Minooka 12,537.
Oak Lawn also picked up contributions from Ken VandeWerken (2,578), Ryan Campin (2,514), Kyle Rodda (2,499), Cody Hanson (1,158), Matt VanderGriend (803), Cody Bulow (159) and Joe Kamenske (158). VandeWerken, a senior, bowled a team-high game of 267.
I'm happy to read anything positive coming out of OLCHS. Congrats, guys.
