Athlete of the Week: Solus Owns the Goal for Richards

Even though it’s not the end of the soccer season yet, Richards senior goalkeeper Ashley Solus already has her coach thinking about how she will be missed.

In Richards’ 3-1 regional quarterfinal victory over Oak Lawn on Friday, Solus stopped a Lady Spartans comeback in the second half with stellar play, including a leaping, one-handed save on a potential Oak Lawn goal that would have tied the game.

“We’re really going to miss (Solus); she owns the goal,” Richards coach Marie Strelka said. “She’s just pure heart and dedication and very athletic.”

In recognition of her efforts over her career and her outstanding game on Friday, Solus has been named Patch’s Athlete of the Week.

The Bulldogs will continue their playoff run on Wednesday against Sandburg in a semifinal match of the Sandburg Regional.
