Baseball: Oak Lawn's Kametas Overpowers Evergreen Park

Oak Lawn 13, Evergreen Park 3. The Spartans used a dominant performance from Bob Kametas and hot hitting to defeat conference rival Evergreen Park for the second day in a row.

Touching All the Bases: Oak Lawn sophomore starting pitcher Bob Kametas controlled the game, and the Spartan offense took advantage of Evergreen Park’s four errors to post a 13-3 baseball victory on Tuesday afternoon. The game was played at Evergreen Park, but Oak Lawn was designated as the home team. The game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning after the Spartans amassed a 10-run lead.

Kametas (2-1) cruised his way through five innings. He finished with nine strikeouts.

The Oak Lawn offense caught fire from the very beginning. In the bottom of the first, senior catcher Matt Volanti hit a three-run homer. The Spartans added five more runs in the second and closed the game when junior Kyle Smith connected for a two-run single to give Oak Lawn a 10-run lead.

Oak Lawn defeated Evergreen Park 5-4 on Monday.

Quotable: Oak Lawn catcher Matt Volanti on beating Evergreen Park two times in two days: “That’s big for us. We wanted to beat them. We came out pumped. We came out to win, and that’s exactly what we did.”

Team Records: Oak Lawn is 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the South Suburban Conference. Evergreen Park falls to 3-7 and 0-4.

What’s Next: Oak Lawn plays at Bremen on Thursday, while Evergreen Park plays at Bloom on Wednesday.
