Gimme 5: Oak Lawn Turns to Lamb to Guide Freshman Boys Basketball

Spartans' new coach Jim Lamb is excited to work with the freshman and develop them into competitors at the varsity level.

There have been a lot of changes in the Oak Lawn High School boys basketball program over the past few months. Jason Rhodes was hired as the new varsity head coach. A change also came at the freshman level, and now Jim Lamb is the new head coach.

Lamb comes from coaching at the eighth-grade level and middle schools in Lombard and Plainfield. He played basketball at Willowbrook High School in Villa Park before getting his undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa.

He will be a special ed teacher at Oak Lawn. He said he heard a lot of great things about the Oak Lawn school district and was excited when he found the job opening.

He looks forward to applying the knowledge he’s gained of coaching in the middle-school and underclass high school ranks.

“I just enjoy working with the kids, especially freshmen,” Lamb said. “They’re still raw with basketball and don’t have a lot of experience. I like working with them, seeing improvements and seeing them get better every day.”
