Hot Shot: Richards' Jeremy Norton Honored as Athlete of the Week

Norton leads Bulldogs with 44 kills and 15 aces over the weekend as Richards takes the Bronze Division championship at the Marist Redhawk Invite.

Richards’ boys volleyball team displayed its championship plaque with pride Saturday afternoon to take a picture, having defeated rival Oak Lawn to take first place in the Bronze Division of the Marist Redhawk Invite. Junior outside hitter Jeremy Norton stood in the middle holding the plaque, a place he deserved with his strong performance.

Norton had 44 kills and 15 aces in five matches over the weekend to lead his team to the championship.

“Last night we played an awesome game against Benet,” Norton said, referring to his team’s 29-27, 25-18 loss Friday night, “and I think that carried over into today. All throughout the day we were strong. We had our ups and downs, but I think we just played great today.”

Richards coach Troy Grevengoed says Norton’s game is multi-faceted.

“Jeremy’s a great leader,” Grevengoed said. “When he’s on, he’s very tough to stop. He can bring it at you in the front row, back row, from serve, and he can pass.”

Norton relished the moment Saturday afternoon after a victory over Oak Lawn.

“It was just a great game,” he said. “I had so much fun. That’s all you can ask for, is just a fun game and a win.”

Richards is 5-2 and 2-0 in the South Suburban Conference.
