Oak Lawn Boys Volleyball Serves Up Strong Start
Spartans open their 2011 campaign with two conference wins and plenty of emotion.
Oak Lawn’s boys volleyball team opened its season with a win over Eisenhower on Tuesday and a victory over Lemont on Thursday.
In the Spartans’ 25-19, 25-17 win over Lemont, Pat McGuinness filled up the scoresheet with 10 kills, nine digs and three blocks.
“I think we’re going to have to play with a lot of emotion,” first-year Spartans head coach Ryan Skendzel said of the formula for a successful season.

Richards Waits Out the Big Chill
Richards’ baseball team has been waiting … and waiting to start its season. The Bulldogs’ first two games, against Thornwood and Stagg, were cancelled this week because of inclement weather, and Saturday’s game against Homewood-Flossmoor has been postponed.
Coach Brian Wujcik is very frustrated.
“This is the worst spring break (weather-wise) we’ve had in a while. We’re tired of being in the gym and anxious to start playing games,” Wujcik said in an email Friday afternoon.
