Richards Boys' Basketball Coach to Step Down

John Chappetto will coach his last game at Richards tonight, against Eisenhower.

Richard boys' basketball coach John Chappetto will take the floor one last time, in tonight's home game against Eisenhower.

Chappetto is stepping down from his coaching role, but will remain a teacher at the school, Sun-Times Media reports.

Chappetto began coaching at Richards in 2002, and led the Bulldogs to the Class 4A state championship in 2008. He has notched a 221-131 record overall.

He needs a break from coaching basketball, he told reporters, but at just 43 years old, hopes to return to the sport in some fashion, someday.

"I’m too young to give up doing it," he told Sun-Times Media.

He plans to devote his time to his children, and their involvement in school and sports.
