Remembering JFK, Business Events Spotlight the Week Ahead

Historic portrayals mark 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination on Nov. 22, after hours with the Oak Lawn Chamber and more in the week ahead.

Friday marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963. This week, historians are offering presentations on the Kennedy Assassination, both scholarly or through portrayals of Kennedy insiders in the Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park area. If you were four years old or older, you probably remember where you were when you learned that President Kennedy had been shot. If you weren’t alive then, you’ll learn why the nation came to a halt for four days in November.

Living Historian Terry Lynch portrays Pierre Salinger,in “1,000 Days of Camelot” at the Oak Lawn Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave. Learn about one of the most exciting, glamorous and dangerous periods in our country’s history, told through the eyes of the trusted press secretary of President John F. Kennedy, who died 50 years ago this week.

Legislative, Licenses and Ethics Committee

The Oak Lawn Village Board’s Legislative and Ethics Committee meets at 5:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 9446 S. Raymond Ave. Said committee meeting is open to the public.

Historic Presentation: 50th Anniversary of JFK Assassination

Historian Jim Gibbons commemorates the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's death in a special presentation, “The Kennedy Assassination.” If you were alive at that time you most likely remember where you were when you learned that the president had been shot; if not you will learn why everything came to a complete halt with just four words “The President is dead.” 6:30 p.m. Free. Hollywood on Lake Michigan

Before Hollywood, there was Chicago and the great Essanay Studios that gave such stars as Charlie Chaplin and Gloria Swanson their start in silent films. Chicago historian and tour guide Michael Corcoran's newest lecture is a companion to Hollywood on Lake Michigan, 2nd Edition. He'll provide a brief overview of Chicago's role in the early history of film, and regale with stories of famous Chicago films. 7 p.m. Oak Lawn Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave.

Jacqueline Kennedy

She held the nation together after the tragic assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy, 50 years ago today. Historian Leslie Goddard portrays Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy in a one-woman show that exposes the private woman behind the public myth, her days in the White House, and her fight to protect her privacy and her children in the days following the death of JFK. 2 p.m. Oak Lawn Library, 9127 S.
