FRIDAY, JANUARY 10


‘Shrek: the Musical’


Curtain Call Theatre presents ‘Shrek the Musical,’ at Lincoln Way-East High School at 201 Colorado Ave., Frankfort. Based on the Academy Award-winning movie by Dreamworks, an unseemly ogre shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and 2 p.m. Sunday. $20 adults; and $18 seniors and students. Visit  www.ccctheatre.com for more show information.

St. Linus Zumbathon Fitness Fundraiser

Just what we needed after the holidays and polar vortex, St. Linus School is hosting a Zumbathon fundraiser benefitting the Family-Teacher Organization. Come join Zumba instructor Amanda Morrell for two hours of fun and exercise, including water and free chair massages. All fitness levels welcome. $15 advance, $20 at the door. Located in the St. Linus School gym at 10400 S. Lawler.

Palos Hills’ Skate Under the Stars - Cancelled

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER. Palos Hills 4th Ward Alderman Joe Marrotta and Alderman Ricky Moore will sponsor the annual Skate Under the Stars at Palos Hills Glacier Park, 101st and 76th Avenue from 7 to 8:30 p.m.. The evening features  bon fires, music, a separate hockey rink and open ice skating rink for all ages, and hot cocoa. All ages welcome. FREE. SATURDAY, JANUARY 11

Oak Lawn Community Pavilion Re-Grand Opening

Celebrate the "re-grand opening" of the Oak Lawn Community Pavilion at 9401 S. Oak Park Ave., Oak Lawn. Come for the ribbon-cutting with park district and other local officials at 10 a.m., then stay for the fun, games and tours of the new gym, multi-purpose room and other upgrades immediately following. The celebration features the 104.3 KHiTS Street Team , giveaways, fun and a half-court shooting contest to win a Kindle Fire. Soup Supper and Game Night

Come enjoy a steaming bowl of tasty soup and delicious dessert on a cold winter night at Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ, 9411 S. 51st Ave., Oak Lawn. The supper includes soup, bread, dessert and beverages. Then stay for board games. A variety of tables will be set up for all ages and skill levels. 5 to 7 p.m. $7 per person.

Coco and Fancy Duo

Stony Creek presents Kathy Holahan Oliva and Gil Oliva. Performing songs from Simon and Garfunkel, Johnny and June Carter Cash, Lyle Lovett, Harry Chapin, Crosby-Stills and Nash, Indigo Girls and much, much more. Enjoy a glass of wine in front of a roaring fireplace and wxperience the natural beauty of Stony Creek Clubhouse at 5850 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn. 7 to 9 p.m. $12, includes food and beverage items up to $6. Must be 21 to attend.

BAC to Broadway Cabaret Show

The Beverly Arts Center’s 2014 Professional Theater Series opens Jan. 11 with “BAC to Broadway,” a cabaret show featuring music from Broadway shows. Staged for an intimate evening of Broadway song and dance with BAC professionals and friends, the show features professional actors, most of whom are connected to the BAC by having performed or taught there. The  show is at Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. and tickets are $20, proceeds from the show will benefit the BAC Professional Theatre Series. You can buy tickets online.

Get in the Art

The Beverly Arts Center’s ‘Get in the Art’ series continues with a session on using broken items you can’t throw away and repurposing them as works of art. The free monthly series encourages you to come in and try your hand at creating works of art. It runs from 2 to 4 p.m.
