Did OLCHS Promote Baseball Coach Out of Convenience?

Oak Lawn High School has filled the vacancy of varsity baseball coach

Oak Lawn High School has filled the vacancy of varsity baseball coach by promoting sophomore coach Bill Gerny to the position. Former coach, Brian Clifton, stepped down due to a family illness. Did former  Athletic  Director Will Dwyer appoint Bill Gerny to the position before he stepped down? If so, why would an Athletic Director who is stepping down have so much say about the future of the Oak Lawn baseball program?  Was there any kind of interview process for the job?  Why wouldn’t the new Athletic Director interview and pick the coach?  Was it done out of convenience? I believe Oak Lawn High School should have been patient and taken their time in order to make sure the best available candidate was selected for the job. Bill Gerny could have been a part of that process and if he was the best candidate for the position than so be it. It should have been a process that included the new Athletic Director. The parents of current players, parents of players coming into the school, and Alumni  who  care about Oak Lawn baseball deserve answers to these questions. The Oak Lawn High School baseball program deserves to have the best candidate available and Oak Lawn High School needs to do the work involved to make that possible.  Anyone wishing to comment about this issue, for or against, can do so at schoolspeakout.com in the Oak Lawn High School forum.  I may be in the minority on this issue. That is perfectly fine. The only way to know is if people speak out and have their voices heard. It can only make things better. Thank you.
