Tr. Tim Desmond Hosts Community Meeting and MORE in the WEEK AHEAD

Special village board budget meeting, a trip down memory lane, job hunters network, special screening and more featured in 'The Week Ahead.'

Oak Lawn Trustee Tim Desmond is holding a community meeting for residents of Dist. 1 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Building at 6702 W. 95th St. Topics of discussion include the new Oak Lawn Jobs Program, new developments in the district, discussion about the Affordable Healthcare Act, and residents’ questions and concerns.

Columbus Day - Government Offices Closed

Do not be alarmed. Oak Lawn Village Hall is closed today due to the federally observed Columbus Day holiday, not because of the federal government shut down. Village Hall will reopen 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. There will also be no mail delivery.

The 2nd Annual Illinois Green Business Summit, “Ingredients for Change” will take place October 15th 2013 from 8:45am to 4:30pm at the Tinley Park Convention Center at 18451 Convention Center in Tinley park. Chicago Southland Job Hunters Network

Chicago Southland Job Hunters Network will meet at 10:30 p.m. at Bootsma Bookstore. Bootsma's is located on the Trinity Christian College campus at 6513 W. 123rd St. in Palos Heights.The focus of the October meeting is developing a more defined representation of yourself by exploring your personal geography.

Al, Judy and Liberace

Larry Bergnach will reminisce about three of the most popular entertainers of their generation – Al Jolson, Judy Garland and Liberace – featuring songs and stories of these stars’ personal and entertainment lives. Free.  2 p.m. Oak Lawn Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave.

Trinity Quilters


The quilters of Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church are looking for new members. The Trinity Quilters meet year round making handmade quilts for Lutheran World Relief. If you like to quilt, hook up with the quilters at 9 a.m. The church is located at 9701 S. Brandt Ave.

 

Oak Lawn Village Board Special Meeting

The Oak Lawn Village Board is holding a public hearing on the 2014 municipal budget as proposed by the village manager, finance director and department management team. The village board have a lot to go over, including plugging an $8 million deficit, over half of which is pension liabilities. Residents are encouraged to attend this preliminary budget meeting. 7:30 p.m. Oak Lawn Village Hall, 9466 S. Raymond Ave.

Pipe Organ Concert

Please St. Paul Lutheran Church for a pipe organ concert given by music minister, Jonathan Swett. Swett’s performance will feature “Hymnthology,” a display of the beauty, power, and drama inherent in ten beloved hymn tunes, including “Thy Strong Word,” “Savior of the Nations,” “Built on the Rock,” “Beautiful Savior” and more. A free-will offering will be taken to go directly toward fundraising to purchase hand bells for the Music Ministry of St. Paul. Screening: The Company You Keep

The Oak Lawn Library will be screening the 2012 film, The Company You Keep,” the story of a former Weather Underground activist on the run from a journalist who has discovered his identity. 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The library is located at 9427 S. Raymond Ave.
